Listen to what students are saying about Boston Reed College and their new careers.
Michelle Gutierrez
Pharmacy
2010
"After high school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Boston Reed College helped me choose a career and saved me from my dead-end job."
Michelle began working at a fast food restaurant soon after high school graduation. She worked there two years when she realized she wanted more than just a job. She wanted a career. She loved working with people and needed some direction to make a change.
Michelle discovered Boston Reed College while searching the internet and decided to call a representative. She realized that becoming a pharmacy technician would fulfill her desire to help people in her community. She worked full-time while attending classes on the weekend.
Michelle completed the program in six months. Today she is employed full-time as a pharmacy technician at the same pharmacy where she did her externship.
Joyce Olkiewicz
Nursing
2006
"I chose Boston Reed College because it was the only program that allowed me to pursue my education while working part-time
and spending time with my family."
Joyce was a mother of two young boys who took on the responsibility of primary caregiver for her grandmother who was suffering from Alzheimers. Through the process of caring for her grandmother, she developed an interest in becoming a nurse.
Joyce researched all of her education options including universities, junior colleges and adult schools. Unfortunately, most of the programs were too expensive and time consuming. After attending an information session, Joyce chose Boston Reed College over the competition.
Joyce graduated from Boston Reed College's nursing program in 2006. After graduation, she was hired by a local assisted living facility. She was such an exemplary student that she was asked to assist the nursing program at Boston Reed College. Joyce is a Licensed Vocational Nurse and a Licensed Administrator for Residential Care Facilities.
Carl Miller
Phlebotomy
2009
"Thanks to the encouragement of my instructors, I am now a member of the professional healthcare field."
Carl was on disability for a back injury when a friend invited him to go to a Boston Reed College information session at the local adult school. Carl always had work. He was strong and fit. Unfortunately, every job he did required hard labor and did not pay well.
At the information session, Carl learned that the Phlebotomy program was the quickest way to get a job in healthcare. He also learned there were job openings for phlebotomists at a nearby hospital. That day Carl and his friend both signed up for the Phlebotomy Technician Program.
Carl became certified in 4 months. Today he works at one of the country's largest hospitals. He's grateful to be taking care of patients instead of moving furniture.
