Phlebotomy for Medical Professionals

This program was designed for healthcare professionals (MA, EMT, LVN, RN, MD), who work for, or plan to work for, a doctor's office, clinic or other healthcare provider that is NOT a licensed clinical laboratory or public health agency. The 16-hour training program provides both classroom and practical instruction in the art of drawing blood. Lectures cover the theory, anatomy and terminology pertaining to the circulatory system. Practical instruction provides hands-on training in venipuncture collection procedure using a butterfly, vacutainer and a syringe as well as how to dispense blood into tubes following syringe collection. Students will perform 10 - 15 venipunctures during the program. The students work in teams, drawing on one another. Upon completion of the program the student will receive our certificate of completion.
Course Length: 16 hours (Saturday & Sunday)

Phlebotomy Technician

This program is designed for persons employed or those who plan to be employed by a licensed clinical laboratory or public health department. The course combines 48 hours of classroom instruction with a 40-hour off-site clinical externship coordinated by Boston Reed, to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience. Lectures include but are not limited to the theory, anatomy and terminology pertaining to the circulatory system, specimen collection, risk factors and complications and quality assurance in specimen collection. Practical instruction provides hands-on training in venipuncture technique with procedures verified through a skills check-off system. The 40-hour externship includes at minimum 50 successful venipunctures and 10 skin punctures. Upon completion of the program the student will receive our certificate of completion and become eligible for certification in the State of California as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT 1).

Limited Phlebotomy

This program is designed for persons employed or those who plan to be employed by a licensed clinical laboratory or public health department and will perform ONLY skin puncture. This program was designed to provide, through classroom and practical instruction, training in skin puncture. Lectures include but are not limited to the theory, anatomy and terminology pertaining to the circulatory system, specimen collection, risk factors and complications and quality assurance in specimen collection. Practical instruction provides hands-on training in skin puncture technique with procedures verified through a skills check-off system. Students will perform at minimum 25 successful skin punctures during the program. The students work in teams, practicing on one another. Upon completion of the program the student will receive our certificate of completion and will be recognized as a Limited Phlebotomy Technician in the State of California. This course does not prepare you to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
